Proudly Canadian

The Whole Story...

We’re a small, proudly Canadian greenhouse based in Niagara, Ontario. In 2014, we began experimenting with microgreens, hoping to offer them to our customers. But growing them in-house limited us to local restaurants—and we knew we wanted to go further.

That’s when we had the idea to create microgreen grow kits (not sprouts—that’s a whole different story). Our first kits were built around plastic trays sourced from a manufacturer in Leamington, Ontario. We launched UGroGreens in 2016 and saw early success at farmers’ markets and in health food stores across the region.

When that Ontario manufacturer shut down production, we had no choice but to import trays from overseas. The quality was fine, but the lead times were long—our first order took six months to arrive. That experience reminded us why buying Canadian matters.

We soon found a new tray supplier in Quebec—Canadian-made, top-quality, and reliably delivered. Yes, it cost a little more, but working with fellow Canadians and supporting local business was worth every penny.

The same thing happened with our grow mats. We originally sourced them from a U.S. company, but frequent delays and missed orders forced us to take matters into our own hands—literally. We had to cut mats ourselves just to fill orders. Eventually, we discovered Terrafibre, an Alberta-based company producing top-tier, hemp-based grow mats. Their quality and turnaround time were unbeatable—and best of all, they’re Canadian.

Through every twist and turn, one thing has become clear: Supporting Canadian suppliers means better quality, less stress, and a stronger local economy. That’s why every UGroGreens kit is proudly Canadian—from the trays to the grow mats, and everything in between.

We don’t just grow greens—we grow Canadian. And we’re proud of it.
